An accessible lesson for students looking at Alexander Pope for the first time. Students start off by reading some witty epigrams, then go on to study 'Solitude: an ode'. They finish by writing their own 'Odes' in a similar vein to Pope's. This would be a useful addition to a unit of work on 17th century poetry or as part of a scheme on poetry through the ages.
