How to use these French icebreaker questions

This resource aims to give students plenty of practice in understanding and answering questions on a range of topics.  This would also make a good ice-breaker resource with a new teaching group. Here are different ways you can use this resource to build students’ vocabulary and confidence and get to know each other:

  • PowerPoint presentation: Use slides to teach students how to adapt questions into answers, such as changing "Quel est ton film favori?" to "Mon film favori est …"
  • Starter activity: Use one question per lesson, allowing students to practice with a partner before answering in class
  • Pair work: Distribute question sheets to pairs, having them ask and answer questions. This can be timed for added engagement
  • Question hat: Place cut-up questions in a hat, randomly select a few and have students answer by catching a ball.

I think this is great. I'm going to use it with Y10, because we've just been doing about how to use a question to construct your answer. This will make a great settling activity at the beginning of lessons, a few questions at a time.
