A KS2 poetry writing resource to mark the coronation of King Charles III.

The resource features guidance, tips, examples and templates for writing a cinquain and a haiku. A checklist of success criteria is included for each form of poetry.

An extract from the resource:

A cinquain (‘sin-kane’) is a type of poem that has five lines. Each line of a cinquain has a certain number of syllables. Each line also has a certain number of stressed syllables. This means that you put more emphasis on that syllable when speaking the line so that you give a particular meaning to the poem.

A haiku (‘high-koo’) is a type of poem that has three lines. Each line of a haiku has a certain number of syllables. Traditionally, haikus were written to make the reader feel a particular emotion.
