Children's mental health and wellbeing

Resources to support children’s emotional health

Children's mental health has never been higher on the agenda. According to the latest NHS Digital report from 2023, one in five children aged 8 to 16 were identified as having a probable mental disorder (20.3%). That's six children in every classroom.

While the lasting effects of the pandemic continue to influence young people's emotional wellbeing, mental health challenges in children remain at concerning levels. To learn more about supporting children during these challenging times, visit our Children's Mental Health Week resources.

We have gathered some resources to help support children's mental wellbeing in primary schools, including a list of mental health support services and providers of mental health care.

The increasing influence of social media and digital platforms on young people's mental health requires particular attention. With new challenges emerging from evolving online environments and social networks, we encourage you to explore our online safety resources. You may also find our anti-bullying resources helpful in addressing both online and offline wellbeing concerns.

Further CPD guidance is available in our CPD Wellbeing library.
